Whooops, Anyone with a Boomer 35/40/45 without super steer, be careful of backing of any tall obstacles. I was clearing out some new growth brush and didn't realize that there was a tree stump about 3" in diameter hiding in the weeds. I didn't even know I damaged the tractor until later in the day when I was doing the 50 hr service on it. The 3" stump had caught on the steering linkage (oversized tie rod more or less) putting a nice bow in it. Its still useable, but makes a guy kick himself when the equipment is still brand new. With my old tractor I never had this kind of problem cause the linkage sat well about the front axle. But to make a long story short, be sure you don't have any hidden obstacles that could catch on this.

Funny, I did the same thing with my JD955 the 1st week I had it (as well as dent the oil pan.) I was able to straighten the steering link but ended up replacing the pan.
Somehow, I haven't had similar problems since and I can't say I'm any more cautious.
I think it happened because the tractor was new; you have to get that first dent somehow! ....

Aint that the truth, I'm kinda glad I got the first damaged part already. Now at least I know I'll probably get a few hundred more hours before I tear something up. Mark ....

MarkS,
Did a similiar thing with my TC40D w/SS. Did not bend a steering rod but ripped a hydraulic hose off. Dealer replaced it for free. Still not sure exactly how I did it but noticed pretty quickly as one wheel stopped steering...
